Li L9
A mobile home, a question mark on the road.
Manufacturer: Li Auto
Li L9, while an impressive family vehicle with its interior luxury and technological equipment, harbors serious safety concerns regarding its fundamental driving dynamics and brake performance. It is appealing for those seeking comfort, but a more careful evaluation is essential for those prioritizing driving safety.
Review
While Li L9 positions itself as a "mobile home," this claim confronts a completely different reality once you get behind the wheel. The luxury and technological equipment offered in the interior are truly impressive; the massage, heating, and ventilation functions of the second-row captain's chairs transform long journeys or urban waits into a spa-like experience. Even the third row is surprisingly spacious and comfortable, offering an ideal area for families with children. The material quality and craftsmanship surpass many rivals in this segment, providing a premium feel.
However, the driving dynamics underlying this comfortable living space are its biggest drawback. The brakes, in particular, prove insufficient to stop this hefty 2,660-kilogram vehicle. Even during initial stops, a noticeable drop in performance can be observed, and under hard braking, the pedal feel becomes mushy and unpredictable. This severely compromises safety during sudden stops in the city or at high speeds on the highway. The steering feel is almost lifeless; your connection with the road is completely severed, which unnecessarily tires and stresses you during long journeys.
For city use, the air suspension provides a pillow-like ride, and the smooth electric powertrain is commendable. Thanks to the range extender system, range anxiety disappears, which is a significant advantage in the electric vehicle experience. Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and LiDAR sensors can make lane changes safe and stable, satisfying tech enthusiasts. However, this technological brilliance is not enough to mask the vehicle's fundamental engineering weaknesses.
While Li L9 attempts to compete with luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLS or BMW X7, it falls far short of these rivals in terms of driving safety and dynamic handling. Although the interior luxury and technology package it offers for its price might seem attractive, compromising on fundamental driving competencies is unacceptable for a vehicle in this segment. If your priority is solely rear-seat comfort and technological gadgets, Li L9 might appeal to you. However, if driving pleasure, road holding, and most importantly, brake safety are indispensable to you, it would be wiser to consider alternatives. While Li L9 delivers on its "mobile home" promise, it leaves serious question marks regarding "safe driving".
