Despite its 7.3 critic score on Metacritic, Gothic 1 Remake suffers from a serious disconnect with player expectations. Nearly half of the user reviews on Steam are negative, clearly demonstrating the extent of this disappointment. If you are looking for the unique magic and brutality of the original Gothic in a modern package, this game will not deliver what you expect and will likely disappoint you. However, if you can overlook the technical issues and are seeking a new fantasy experience with a more fluid combat system and updated visuals, it might be worth a shot. Still, in its current state, it falls far short of the quality and value balance expected from a remake and lags behind its competitors.
